Volume three Copyrights by Jes Fuhrmann, 2013 All rights reserved ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: TONY SÁNCHEZ “Thank you for sharing my painting.” Tony wrote as I pondered the interesting comment. “Why wouldn’t I share your painting all over the world?!” I questioned as I reflected on yet another insulting remark a long forgotten Facebook “friend” once uttered. “You’re an artist!” the clueless woman began, “Why don’t you just feature all your paintings in your series instead of stealing other artist’s work!” she sneered as I thought about the back-handed “compliment.” “Get a clue!” I grumbled as I dismissed her suggestion to turn my back on the rest of the world, merely focus on my own selfish ego. Would you believe that there’s people in the world that think I’m writing an Audubon series about parrots?! That amuses me because even though my series is written, in theory through Pink Pearl’s perspective, it’s not a series merely about the birds. It’s about paying it forward, one series at a time and in keeping with tradition, this volume is dedicated to the Sunami Wati and the people of Indonesia as well as my very dear friend, Tony Sanchez who has very unselfishly offered to accept custom-commissioned work in order to contribute to Pink Pearl’s Parrot Rescue and to support my endeavors to make this world a better place. And now for a brief bio about my wonderfully talented artistic collaborator: Born in the Canary Islands, Spain, Tony began sketching and painting an early age. He usually paints in traditional (oil, watercolor, pastel, gouache, colored pencil, airbrush, etc.) and digital art (Photoshop, Painter, Illustrator, etc.). Until the 80’s, when Tony began studying veterinary medicine at the University of Las Palmas de G.C., he worked for different clients that commission him artworks with a wide variety of styles, however he left in the last year to work professionally as artistic painter and illustrator , going to work in AXIS STUDIOS (Scientific Illustration & Wildlife Art). He also works on commission for Medical Illustrations (Doctoral thesis & Professorship, Department of Endocrinology, University of LPGC) and Scientific Illustrations (Department of Biology, University of LPGC) as well as publications in scientific magazines (Botanic, animals, etc.). In the 90’s, Tony’s art was exhibited in various monographic and group exhibitions such as the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, U.S.A.), Illuminating Science (Museum of Art and History, Santa Cruz, California, U.S.A.), Carteles Educativos Loro Parque Foundation (Caja Canarias, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, SPAIN), Northern Arizona University Art Museum and Galleries (U.S.A.), Oceanos: Illustrating Marine Life (Centro de exposiçôes da fortaleza de sagres, Portugal.), Large Parrots Collection Exhibition (Centro de Congresos, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Spain), Iowa State University (U.S.A.) and Palacio Dom Manuel (Évora, Portugal). He went on to study Graphic Design and was selected to work as a graphic designer for the company Philippe Martin & Asociados. Ilustrations for book “Espécies ameaçadas em Portugal” and CD-ROM “Espécies ameaçadas em Portugal” (Forum Ambiente magazine). Amongst many requests, he was also commissioned to illustrate and design more of 300 posters for Loro Parque Foundation, as well as working extensively with that foundation with Christmas and posters for international conventions. Many of his wonderful illustrations and paintings can be seen in the following books: Loro Parque, La vestimenta tradicional en Gran Canaria (Cabildo Insular de G.C.), Cetrería, la caza con aves de presa (Andrés López Sánchez), Reptiles y Anfibios - Fauna Ibérica. From 2000 to 2012: Tony participated in Proyects as Laurisilva XXI, Charca de Maspalomas, Jardín Canario Viera y Clavijo, Parque Biológico de Madrid, etc. In 2002 he wrote, illustrated and published his own book Aves de Canarias” (“Birds of the Canary Islands) (Editorial Rueda, Spain). His continued list of academic credentials include but are not limited to illustrator of all artworks of the books: Designs & Illustrations for Frutania & Clipper; My First Book of Garden Wildlife (2008) and My First Book of Garden Bugs (2009) from A&C Black Publisher of Bloomsbury Group (original publisher of Harry Potter); Uniforms of the American War of Independence (1775-1783) (Lorenz Books, 2008); I Love Rainforests (Miles Kelly, 2008); Les animaux des forêts tropicales (Piccolia, 2011); Guía de Aves del Parque Nacional de Timanfaya (Gobierno de Canarias, 2011); \. Designs of Posters and T-shirts for Parrots International Symposiums. Magazines; Bird Talk, Ruta Archipiélago, Fagelhobby, and of course, “The Diary of Pink Pearl Continues: I’m Wide Awake and Born Again!”, Volume two and three with continued promise of more to come in the future. He currently teaches drawing and painting in Gran Canaria (Spain) for Universidad Popular de Agüimes, works for the London artists agency Advocate Art, and is preparing a series of books on various themes.
