The Difference Between Good and Evil, and How to Tell For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him. Basing these remarks on the foundation of truth, and not holding one person above another, this is a more correct idea of the difference between good and evil and how to tell the difference. As in times past, I call on the Doctrine and Covenants section one verse two “For verily the voice of the Lord is unto all men, and there is none to escape; and there is no eye that shall not see, neither ear that shall not hear, neither heart that shall not be penetrated.” And again from verse thirty-eight of that same section; What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same. We all come from the same Father and the counsel is the same for all, so there should, in effect be no confusion, but there is, and it is for that reason that we speak the way that we do. We are in-fact in a battle for truth and error like no other time in the world’s history, and that is due to the fact that the devils time is short and he is working overtime to claim as many souls as he can. Aside from the fact that truth, complete pure truth, is what it is, the way to tell if you are on the right track or not is to look at who is opposing you and how easy it is to do the thing. To maintain truth is in-fact quite difficult and one must be ever vigilant in defending it. Evil on the other hand requires little effort at all. Once it gets its foot in the door, it will permeate and infect everything around it with little exertion. The speed at which ideas are changing and standards loosening is perhaps the best example of evil taking its awful grasp. Mark this well, times have not changed, standards have slipped, slipped so far that there are those that would call “good evil and evil good.”To use the words of Paul, “…from such turn away.” We are in a battle for our very lives, nay, our very souls, and we cannot let evil and its influences sneak in the door. We must protect ourselves with all protection and help as many as we can.
