The Doctrine of Signatures is an interesting theory that believes the natural shape of a food correlates to the body organs it most resembles. Wholesome foods are beneficial for the health of our entire body, however when we closely study the Doctrine of the Signatures we begin to appreciate just how beautiful whole foods are to our health and wellbeing! Here is a brief overview of this fascinating theory: Carrot – when sliced looks like a human eye; with its centre pupil, iris and radiating lines. Therefore, carrots are beneficial for eye health. Tomato – when sliced a tomato reveals four chambers, and is usually red. Because the heart is red, and has four chambers, the tomato is beneficial for the heart. Walnuts – when removed from its shell, a walnut resembles the brain with its right and left hemisphere. Even the wrinkles resemble the neo-cortex! Needless to say, walnuts make amazing brain food. Celery – look like our bones (aside from the colour, naturally!) and therefore are great for bone health. Kidney beans – just as the name suggests, these little beans resemble kidneys and are beneficial for our kidney health! Can you guess what bananas are good for? :P
