The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to name the new Lee Road bridge over Interstate 20 the Captain Herb Emory Memorial Bridge at Tuesday’s meeting. The resolution recommends that the county’s state delegation introduce and pass legislation so the name change will be official. A longtime traffic reporter for WSB Radio and Channel 2 Action News, Emory was a loved friend and community activist of Douglas County. He died suddenly in April after having a massive heart attack while helping children escape from an overturned vehicle. Commission Chairman Tom Worthan said the BOC, “feels it would be appropriate to have Captain Herb Emory’s name permanently affixed in our community as a way to remember this great man.”
