The SAME bill sponsor (Dem Rep Pabon) is now proposing a bill that says, except for a religious objection, if you do not get a Doctors note or take a class (as often as the government decides is necessary), your child we be banned from school. I think it would be reasonable to allow for a voluntary, anonymous collection and publication of data on student vaccination rates. This could be done by any school district at any time, based upon the desires of those at the local level. But to force parents to get a doctor’s authorization (which for many doctors is going to require the expense of an annual “wellness checkup”, or else they won’t want to take any responsibility for your health out of malpractice fears), or to complete state–enforced training (is that going to cost also? and the bill doesn’t limit how often it has to be completed), is to infringe upon the rights of the individual. Our government was established to protect the rights of the individual, not enforce the tyrannical will of the majority. This is a crucial concept of liberty and the role of government that we are fighting to maintain today. This bill HB14-1288 is being heard at 1:30 today in the Old Supreme Court Chambers.
