The Edmonton Humane Society needs a foster parent for a special - TopicsExpress

The Edmonton Humane Society needs a foster parent for a special two year old. Please consider fostering. Eclipse is a two year old spayed yellow labrador retriever, 18.7 kg who was surrendered on September 20th for being very fearful and shut down, not leaving her crate and choosing to soil herself in there rather than venture out. In the shelter we have placed her on a hand feeding and socialization programs and have been taking her out to playgroups every day. She has been with us for six days and made some progress and will now walk (hesitantly) on leash and approach and eat from behavior staffs hands. She has never shown any aggression but is very fearful, and often in a state of learned helplessness. In playgroups she does her best and will run and interact with the other dogs. She has been in an office foster to see how she does and she was exploring her environment and interacting with the dogs in the office, but avoidant and ignoring the people. She is fearful of loud noises and sudden movements especially, and is tolerant though uncomfortable with all handling. At this time we would like to get Eclipse into an experienced rescue who can continue with her behavior modification. While she has shown goodprogress in the shelter we feel that the amount of weeks (possibly months) of behavior modification needed would be better spent with her in a foster home rather than the shelter environment. We would like to to ask you at this time to take Eclipse into your rescue. She is not house trained, but does very well in the crate. She is great with other dogs and has never shown any signs of separation anxiety, destructive behaviors, or aggression towards dogs or people. At this time she has no obvious health concerns and is up to date on vaccinations (except rabies).
