The Energy East pipeline which will run from Alberta to Eastern Canada is a recipe for disaster. This will carry the bitumen (crude oil) from the Alberta oilsands through the existing gaslines. In Manitoba this pipeline runs just north of Falcon Lake. A spill from the oil line in this area could filter into Shoal Lake which is where our water supplies come from. I am sure this scenario is similar in the other provinces. Whether it pollutes our drinking water, either urban supplies or in wells, it also pollutes the soil and the effects can last decades or longer. Here is an article in todays Winnipeg Free Press. It is time for the citizens of Canada to protest this pipeline. Oil is only being sent to the east for processing and shipping abroad.
