The Equídeos Family: Shaping Human History Since the Year Dot And it all started with Stone Age spotted horse, Anton Eohippus Equídeos . . . Anton was a very inquisitive early equine and he followed human developments with great sympathy and interest, especially those of one, Dag Gonnit, a three-toed troglodyte and haphazard inventor. Partly to escape the sharp tongue of a nagging wife, Dag had spent the better part of a week filing down two large boulders into two-dimensional circles. Now he began rolling them, one at a time, over to where he had created a huge wicker basket. As Dag pushed the second round rock into place, he lost his footing as the rolling stone rolled over a toe, crushing it, and reducing him to a two-toed troglodyte. Anton hurried over to investigate and found Dag hopping around on one foot. Still bouncing around and hollering, Dag spotted Anton (I told you he was a spotted horse) and grabbed him by the mane. Before he could do anything about it, Anton Equídeos had become the first horse in history to haul a human on his back. After two weeks’ worth of recuperation, Dag enlisted Anton to help him drag and then hurl the two stone circles off the edge of a cliff, thus setting human history back another 1,000 years . . .
