The FUNDRAISING LETTER ABOUT HOW TO DONATE I hope this letter finds you doing well. I am writing to inform you of a great opportunity in my life. Summit Christian Church is doing great things both locally in Reno/Sparks, as well as globally. This coming June I have the opportunity to travel with Summit to Nairobi, Kenya to work in an area of the Mathare Valley Slum called Kiamaiko. Summit has a great heart for Kiamaiko – an area of only a few acres, yet housing some 70,000 people in tough conditions. Through Christian Missionary Fellowship (CMF) in Kenya Summit has been able to assist the creation of a school (currently 1200+ students enrolled in four different buildings), development a post-test club for those that are HIV+, train and equip Community Health Evangelists, launch a great church, and provide resources for microfinance loans. The goal: alleviate poverty. Over the years we have seen such a great improvement in the physical, emotional and spiritual health of the community. I am looking forward to being on this short-term mission trip. We are leaving Reno on June 19th and will be returning June 30th. While in Nairobi we will be working in the Kiamaiko slum. We’ll be helping out in the school, visiting those that are housebound due to HIV/AIDS, leading Bible studies and outreach events in the community as well as helping install ‘sky lights’ in shacks. In a home without windows or power, sky lights are a welcome addition. We will also be heading up specific leadership seminars throughout our time there. We will also be able to worship with, and encourage, the church leaders in Kiamaiko. While in Nairobi we will partner with CMF. The total cost for the trip, $3100, covers airfare, lodging, food, visas, and the purchase of outreach materials. I have paid $150 as a deposit, leaving a balance of $2950.
