The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a one vehicle fatality traffic crash on Interstate 71 North just south of S.R. #38 (Exit 75) in Paint Twp., Fayette County, Ohio. The crash was reported on Monday evening, October 13, 2014 at 8:06 p.m. According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a 2000 Toyota Echo operated by Jaylin T. Harmon, Age 20 of Orient, Ohio was traveling northbound on Interstate 71 and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle began sliding across the northbound lanes of Interstate 71, striking a concrete bridge wall over Paint Creek. The vehicle continued, overturning multiple times and ejecting Ms. Harmon from the vehicle into the roadway. Following the ejection, Ms. Harmon was reportedly struck by other northbound vehicles. Ms. Harmon was pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Coroner Dr. Dennis Mesker. Members of the Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene and Interstate 71 North remains closed while deputies continue their investigation of the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Transportation responded to the scene to assist in the detouring of traffic around the crash location. Members of the Fayette County EMS and Bloomingburg Fire Department also responded and assisted at the scene.
