The Federal Communications Commission voted to substantially - TopicsExpress

The Federal Communications Commission voted to substantially increase investment in high-speed broadband connectivity to the Internet for schools and public libraries by increasing E-rate program funding by $1.5 billion. In a historic 3-2 vote, the Commissions action is as significant as it is bold - as the programs funding has been capped (or frozen) since it was created. This is a big WIN for students in our classrooms that would not have been possible without NEA members having raised their voices, including at the Representative Assembly this year, with Congress and the FCC - resulting in a historic and significant investment in 21st century teaching and learning. NEA issued a statement celebrating this historic increase. Todays Commission vote to increase the funding cap by $1.5 billion will bring the E-rate programs annual funding total up to $3.9 billion starting in FY015. This permanent fund increase of $1.5 billion will provide a significant boost to the E-rate programs ability to support investment in high-speed broadband connectivity for schools.
