The Federal Constitution allows rural constituencies to have - TopicsExpress

The Federal Constitution allows rural constituencies to have smaller electorate. This makes perfect sense for the inland constituencies in Sarawak. As it stands, Hulu Rejang is roughly of the same size of Pahang and Baram is comparable to Perak. Nevertheless, in the redelineation proposal unveiled on January 5, the EC has managed to keep the two constituencies reasonably close to the average. P220 Baram will have 31,476 voters, which is 88% of the state average of 35,779. Even as large as Pahang, P216 Hulu Rejang will have 23,637 voters, which is 66% of the state average. If these two constituencies can have so many voters despite their geographical spread, why on earth that P207 Igan should have only 18,082 voters (the states smallest) and P206 Tanjong Manis should have only 19,025 voters (the states third smallest)? Does the EC suggest that Igan and Tanjong Manis are both much more inland than Hulu Rejang and Baram? Has this got nothing to do with the fact that Igan and Tanjong Manis are contested by PBB while Baram was by SPDP and Hulu Rejang by PRS? Sarawakians, dont allow the EC to manipulate your future. Do something about it. This 1-month will determine your future for the next 10 years!
