The Federalist Papers Read "The Miracle of the United States – Fighting the American Revolution, Part 2" by Bill Bailey The United States’ War for Independence dragged on for eight grueling years and General George Washington’s greatest disgruntlement dogged unwillingness of the states to meet assessments from the Congress. These assessments, used under the Articles of Confederation in lieu of tax levies, would provide the army with much needed clothing, food, and supplies. In some cases, the states did not even support their own fighting units. Even before the Declaration of Independence, Washington found himself fighting this war within the war.
