The Fight of the Century: Obama vs. The Constitution For a moment, pretend you have been given ringside seats to the fight of the century. This battle, however, is nothing like any heavyweight match you have ever seen. In the red corner stands the Constitution of the United States - a 223-year-old document forged in the aftermath of revolution; bought and paid for with the blood of patriots. Not only does the Constitution define the structure and function of the federal government, it guarantees - in writing - the rights and freedoms that are to be enjoyed by every American. It has weathered wars, bad Presidents, and bad court decisions. It has been changed and amended as needed to correct injustices like slavery and discrimination based on skin color or gender. After more than two centuries, however, it remains the supreme legal document in the land. In the blue corner stands Barack Hussein Obama - the 44th and current President of the United States. But wait, you say. Isnt the President sworn to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic? The answer, of course, is yes - and thats what makes this bout so unique. One or the other will emerge victorious - and every one of us will be affected in ways we cannot even begin to imagine. Either we will continue to be the free citizens of a democratic republic - or we will become the subjects of an all-powerful central government. Everyone knows of the now-famous encounter between then-candidate Obama and the man known as Joe the Plumber. It was there, in front of the national media, that Obama explained his dream of redistribution: Its not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that theyve got a chance at success, too… My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody. If you’ve got a plumbing business, you’re gonna be better off [...] if you’ve got a whole bunch of customers who can afford to hire you, and right now everybody’s so pinched that business is bad for everybody and I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody. Redistribution of wealth is a central tenet of Marxism, the ideology behind the former Soviet Union. Consider the way Obama treats the one network that dares to allow criticism of his policies - Fox News. From the beginning of his Administration, Obama - unused to criticism from anyone - relentlessly attacked Fox News: In June 2009, David Knowles of Politics Daily reported that he went after the network, calling it the voice of the opposition to his administration. First of all, Ive got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration. he said in an interview - as if Fox News was his to control. Last September, Obama called Fox News destructive to America. An editorial at the Boston Herald called Obamas treatment of the press heavy-handed after the administration threatened the paper for daring to print an op-ed by Mitt Romney on its front page: BU communication professor Tobe Berkovitz said that in an age of complacent press, “the Herald should be honored that at least they’re not a sycophant and a lap dog for the White House.” He added that the White House is “obsessed” with supportive media outlets. These are but a few of Obamas attacks on the Constitution. Some, like WNDs Joseph Farah, believe his very presence in the Oval Office as President is contrary to the requirements set forth in the Constitution. His signature legislation - the massive health care law known as Obamacare - has been ruled unconstitutional due to the individual mandate to purchase health insurance - something that has never been done before in American history. Several states are still fighting the law, and it will no doubt end up in the Supreme Court. On practically every issue - from immigration to health care to his role as Commander-in-Chief - Obama seems to be doing everything he can to shred the document so wisely crafted over two hundred years ago. After the Democratic Party got shellacked in the 2010 midterm elections, the liberal think tank Center for American Progress released a report suggesting the President use everything at his disposal to enact his radical agenda. The U.S. Constitution and the laws of our nation grant the president significant authority to make and implement policy. These authorities can be used to ensure positive progress on many of the key issues facing the country through: Executive orders Rulemaking Agency management Convening and creating public-private partnerships Commanding the armed forces Diplomacy The examples listed here are only the tip of the iceberg. Americans are witnessing the fight of the century, and only one can emerge victorious. If President Obama and his minions win, the United States is finished as a free republic.
