Brazil in Focus in 2014 Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich and thrilling literature and culture of a nation that at the moment is flourishing culturally and undergoing rapid economic growth. In thie coming years, the world will increasingly turn its eyes to Brazil – a nation that not only will host the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, but is also one of the most successful in terms of economic development. In this context, it is even more interesting to spotlight the uniqueness of Brazilian culture and in particular, its literary tradition. Brazilis exploring new ways to engage with the rest of the world — and bringing with these our ideas, traditions, and culture. Just as individuals develop new ways of expression and new ways to relate with others, nations also create an image and a personality. If the image that is projected is attractive, it serves as a beacon to attract visitors, investors, and visionary interlocutors. Brazil is the only Portuguese-speaking nation in South America, and while the language is clearly a vital part of its national identity, its literature is also characterized by its diversity. It is a country where a large part of the population has roots in Italy, Japan, and Germany, in addition to large parts of the African continent, and there are no fewer than 180 minority languages spoken within the country.
