The Forward Day By Day Meditation THURSDAY, November 6 Ecclesiasticus 44:11 Their wealth will remain with their descendants, and their inheritance with their children’s children. My three-year-old daughter has a very active imagin-ation. Yesterday, she saw an athlete on TV and declared his name to be Shawn (it wasn’t) and that he was her friend. She regularly crafts some elaborate narrative about a fictional world a long time ago “when she was five.” As I listened to her story, it occurred to me that someday I might have the honor to hold a daughter or son of hers. I admit the idea, while a perfectly normal expectation for how humans mature and reproduce, seems preposterous when I watch her bounce excitedly about the living room recounting her playdate with her friend. And yet, the idea of my children’s children fills me with great hope and fervor. I love the idea that we are passing on “righteous deeds” (v. 10) to our offspring, that our inheritance will be our children’s children. What are you passing on to the youngest ones in your life today? What might they pass on to others long after we are gone?
