The Freedom to Love Galatians 5:13-15 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another” Galatians 5:13-15 (NLT). In this passage, Paul is addressing the questions that so many of us ask once we’ve released our heavy burdens of sin and guilt: Where do I go from here? What should I do with my newfound freedom? What does life look like after I accept Christ? Thankfully, the Word of God never leaves us hanging; instead, it always gives us direction, it always points us down the right path—and the Bible says, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Paul tells us that now that we’re free, we should use our newfound freedom to love each other, to build each other up instead of tearing each other down. I love how the Bible always comes back to love; at every turn, love is the answer to the question: How do you sum up the Law? Answer: Love. Who is God? Answer: Love. How will people know we are disciples of Christ? Answer: Love. It would seem that it all boils down to this very simple concept: Love—unbridled, unchecked, unrestrained, unconditional love. So why do we make it all so complicated? Why do we try to make discipleship so difficult? Why don’t we stop asking questions and start living love?
