The Galway Central School Board of Education will appoint Shannon C. Shine as superintendent of schools at a special meeting on July 25. Shine will begin his role as superintendent on August 28, 2013. Since 2011, Shine has served as principal at the Ichabod Crane Primary and Elementary schools in Valatie. Prior to that he served as summer school principal at the Ichabod Crane High School from May to August 2009 and again in 2011. From 2007-2011, he was the assistant principal at the Ichabod Middle School. He served his administrative internship from May to August 2004 at Shenendehowa Central School in Clifton Park where he began his career in education as a fourth, fifth and sixth grade teacher at Tesago Elementary School and Koda Middle School in 1999. A graduate of the Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado Springs, Colo., Shine earned a bachelor’s of arts and science degree with a dual concentration in cognitive science and philosophy from Colgate University. He received a master’s of science degree in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport and another master’s degree in education administration from University at Albany. In addition, he earned certifications as a School District Administrator (SDA), School Business Administrator (SBA), and a School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS). Married with three children, Shine is a resident of Clifton Park.
