The Gardai are making a right bollix of their image. Between their behaviour in Mayo on the Shell to Sea, their premeditated brutality in Dublin (when they removed their shoulder numbers) on the Reclaim the Streets protest, and now this ugly, heavy-handed breaking up of peaceful when the issue is still so politically charged - if they had any moral courage whatsoever, they would refuse. They will damage the public trust irreparably with this loutish behaviour, and with no moderation being advocated by the senior ranks or their political masters, the entire affair should bring down the government. Now thats democracy in action.
