The General Overseer of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, , Williams Kumuyi,has warned Nigerians not to vote along ethnic and religious lines in 2015. Kumuyi, who said the measure remained the best way to elect credible leaders for Nigeria, advised his members to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) in order to participate actively in electing leaders who would shape their collective destiny. The cleric made the statement in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, yesterday at a press conference to declare open a three-day revival in the state organised by Pastor Debo Mark Taiwo. The man of God warned that “Nigerians must be careful in electing their leaders in 2015. We must not vote based on ethnic or religious sentiment. “People should vote based on the credentials of the leaders. We have to look at the records of those who are contesting to be elect as credible leaders who would bring development. “It won’t be wise for people to start voting for somebody because he is from your area or a member of your church. This is the reason people should speak through the ballot by participating actively in the electoral system.” Kumuyi urged politicians to embrace peace by being gallant in defeat, saying such remains the best way to ensure peace and stability in the system. On the importance of Nigerian citizens to be in possession of their PVCs, Kumuyi said: “All members of Deeper Life Church must get their PVCs. It is good for citizens to participate in electoral system so that when your leaders are not doing well, you will have the right to complain.” The cleric urged the churches to continue to get involved in social welfare by way of empowering the poor in the society. He said the step would help in teaching the citizens how to be their brothers’ keepers in a developing nation like Nigeria, where poverty is high and deeply entrenched in the system.
