The Global Network for Rights and Development (GNRD) and its Youth Group in Algeria organised events to celebrate International Youth Day on Tuesday, 12 August 2014 in the Algerian city of Almsila, which embraced this event for the first time in its history. Among the participants were successful young Algerians, as well as a group of university professors and representatives of civil society institutions. As part of the festivities for International Youth Day in Algeria, there was a presentation of the best Arab youth initiatives such as the Zidni Network for Education and the Educational Platform Initiative. Some of the best Algerian initiatives were also presented, such as People for Good Association, Youth for Jerusalem and the Alfatah Center for Orphans. In addition, the organising committee chose five young Algerians to talk about their own experiences of success, followed by poetry readings and artistic presentations. To close, participants were awarded with certificates of appreciation. The organising committee selected the student, Wesal Tabani to be the guest of honor for the celebration of International Youth Day, as she obtained the first ranking at a national level for the final high school exams. Suhaib Hijab, the GNRD youth group coordinator in Algeria, stated that the ceremony saw a significant interaction of youth and local civil society organisations. She also emphasised the fact that the celebration was an opportunity to achieve desired goals, such as encouraging young people to participate in the event and in particular, invite creative people to present their achievements. gnrd.net/seemore.php?id=663
