The Great Physician Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? Jeremiah 8:22 Doctors can heal many diseases today. Some are known for their abilities to diagnose, treat and cure many sicknesses. This makes them famous and highly sought after. But as with everything in the world there are cases, which cannot be treated or cured. This Great Physician in our text is the one “who healeth all thy diseases” Psalm 103:3b). When He was here on the earth, he cured everyone who came to Him no matter what the disease was. Luke 6:17-19, “And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.” We have only written about the physical healing of the body, but though the body is healed from the ailments that we have here, we shall still have to die. We need spiritual healing! Our bodily ailments are secondary. The disease of sin needs to be dealt with and cured! The problem is that we are not only dying physically, but are born dead spiritually in sins and trespasses. Eph 2:1, “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” We need to be made alive by the power of the triune God. He says to us in Ezekiel 16:3-6, “Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite. And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the loathing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born. And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.” We have life because of the life giving physician, for His word says, “The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up” (1 Samuel 2:6). He always makes the right diagnosis, so, “to whom else shall we go” (John 6:68b)? We must die to self and be made alive in Him! The Lord draws His people with cords of love, which causes them to love Him in return. This love spills over into everything that they do, growing stronger day by day. The world may benefit outwardly from this love, but it never causes them to forsake their selfish desires. All things are for the benefit of God’s people only. The LORD Jesus Christ becomes their song, as a poet of old says, “How sweet the name of Jesus sounds in a believer’s ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, and drives away his fear. It makes the wounded spirit whole and calms the troubled breast; tis manna to the hungry soul and to the weary rest.” Written by: Cornelius VanKempen February 11, 2012 Read my meditations and devotions at: Http://Casey4949.posthaven Or Http://Casey4949.wordpress
