The “Grumbling” Christians We all like to hear ourselves - TopicsExpress

The “Grumbling” Christians We all like to hear ourselves complain. I refuse to believe otherwise because it seems that it’s all we have time for. We want to whine about the slightest little thing, often making it bigger so that our poor listener will feel as bad as we do. This can’t help to make the world take notice about our more positive news, the great news of the gospel. “Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain..” Philippians 2:14-15(NASB) There are several places in God’s Word that tell us to be “lights in the world.” In order to make the world see these lights, the world needs to realize just how bad, how corrupt it actually is. We need to make sure they are listening to us. Who wants to hear the same old gripes and omplaints coming from a person that should be spewing light? How can we expect anyone to listen to us if we are asserting the same old negative comments, the same old bad news, or the same old destructive attitudes? It seems that the world tries to give us very little reason to feel good about anything. But that does not give us good reason to continue “grumbling or disputing.” We need to make the effort to share the good news. We need to be the “lights in the world,” announcing that God is good, all the time, regardless of how “crooked and perverse” our generation or future generations will be. The world can be a very negative place. It can make a very dark and dreary person our of a very positive and enthusiastic one. We seem to allow the world to reign in darkness while we “grumble and dispute” everything in our lives. At times, we are even disputing the existence of an all-powerful God, particularly when we refuse to spread His good news to the world. It’s time to turn the volume up a little so that His grace and mercy can fall on deaf ears and still be heard. “in the world, not of the world”
