The Guide To my foreign friends. Perhaps, watching this - TopicsExpress

The Guide To my foreign friends. Perhaps, watching this Ukrainian entry for the 87th Academy Awards would provide the best answer for why there is such a resistance in our country against restoring any kind of Soviet rule. The story takes place in the 1930s and focuses primarily on the persecution of Ukrainian kobzars – a unique class of blind traveling folk musicians, who sang dumas containing the truth of all the atrocities committed by the Soviets. On Stalins order in 1932, all Ukrainian kobzars were called to attend a congress in Kharkiv, where more than 300 of them were put to death. There are also quite a few references made to Holodomor, or Stalin-made famine in Ukraine, which resulted in nearly 7 million deaths of innocent people. My great-grandma, for instance, only happened to survive it because at the time she was nursing a child of one kind military family. They would feed her at their place and under the supervision of a soldier send her back home with a small parcel of food for her own family... P.S. The movie contains English subs & you can watch it by following the link below.
