The Highways to Uncertainty and Disintegration By Rajesh Salam In today’s context, we have three important land routes connecting Manipur with the rest of the world, and these are the Imphal-Dimapur highway or the National Highway No.102 (now more popularly known as the Asian Highway No.1 or AH1), the Imphal-Jiribam highway or the National Highway No.37, and the Kohima-Imphal-Aizwal highway or the National Highway No.150. At the moment, the maximum volume of trade and commerce, and passenger travel is through the AH1. The Imphal-Jiribam highway is more reluctantly being used by the transporters because of the poor condition of the highway at various intervals. The volume of business and passenger travel on N.H.150 is lesser because of the longer travel time on this stretch of the highway plus the poor condition of the highway and lack of amenities along the highway.
