The Historical Commission emailed an Agenda that referred to the application to demolish the Boyds auditorium. That would be terrible, but thats not all thats proposed for demolition. The entire interior of our last movie palace would be lost- Vestibule Lobby, Grand Lobby, Foyer, Auditorium, Upstairs Foyer, Lower Lounge, Backstage & dressing rooms, Projection Booth. Other than Philly, Houston is the only large city in the US without a restored downtown movie palace. But, how large was Houston before WW2, when movie palaces were built? Philadelphia was the 3rd largest US city. If our goal is to protect important 20th Century landmarks, not only ones from the 18th Century, then the Boyd must be saved! What would make approval of the application really ridiculous is that Friends of the Boyd have the grant for the purchase price! There is no hardship and the application should be denied. But, since the Hardship Committee moved it along, we are very concerned. Please support Saving the Boyd from the demolition application of Live Nation & iPIC by attending the hearing of the full Philadelphia Historical Commission on FRIDAY March 14 starting 9 AM at 1515 Arch Street (the aluminum colored building) at 18th floor.
