“The Holy Bible is an important part of society, instilling and upholding a moral code for all to live by. The absence of this moral code would have devastating effects on our world and humanity would tumble into widespread immorality, murder, rape, and all other imaginable forms of evil.” If there is a person who does not know basic right from wrong, but must look it up in a book, wouldn’t this man be considered a psychopath? Additionally, how do you explain cultures which do not recognize the Holy bible yet still possess morality? Atheistic families, for example, obviously do not instill biblical morality in their children, yet their children still posses a moral compass. Also, 80% of incarcerated Americans identify as Christian…how would you account for this large number of criminals who recognize and claim the biblical moral code? The Bible is certainly not a book of perfect moral examples. It is among the most violent, bigoted, and fundamentally barbaric pieces of literature in history. It condones the murder of innocent people, mass murders fueled by racism and political intolerance, incestuous marriages, the cruel forced-submission of women, etc. This is the moral code by which you believe society should be molded? Conclusion: The Holy Bible is the opposite of a positive moral code. It has proven to cause social problems, fuel wars and genocides, and provide excuses to bigots for over 1,400 years. It’s a damaging piece of literature that children should not be exposed to. It perpetuates confusion and conflict. It is no moral code.
