The Home Secretary designate along with AR officials at Moreh Hueiyen News Service/Imphal, June 16:Even as people of Manipur are still repentant at theloss of Kabow Valley to Myanmar, their aspiration on development of Moreh as the hub of international trade in the backdrop of Look East Policy of the Indian Government seems to be shattered with Myanmar claiming larger portion of Moreh town as their territory. The Assam Rifles authorities have informed about this claim from Myanmar to the newly appointed Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami during his two-day visit to the State only today. The fact that the Myanmarese authorities have been demanding to stop the construction of Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Moreh Gate No. 1 for quite a long time, also came to light during thevisit of this newly appointed HomeSecretary, who would be assuming the charge formally on July 1 next. The note from Myanmarese authorities, demanding the Indian counterparts to stop construction of Moreh ICP until the settlement of issues on Border Pillar No. 76 and No. 78, was handed over to Anil Goswami during his visit to Moreh today. The dispute between Myanmar and Manipur is over one and half kilometre long boundary after thedisappearance of Border Pillar No. 76 and No. 78. However, the Border Pillar No. 77 still remains intact. The Myanmarese authorities are claiming the portion of Moreh Gate No. 1, Gate No. 2 and Tamil Temple in Moreh town as their territory. The Indian government and Manipur government have even started land demarcation tosettle the boundary dispute. Anil Goswami arrived at Imphal yesterday and headed towards Moreh along with IGAR (South) Major General Rajiv Chopra and Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu today. The officials inspected the Integrated Check Post at Moreh Gate No. 1 and the controversial boundary portion of about one and half kilometres long. As per the demand of Myanmarese authorities construction works at Integrated Check Post have stopped from today. Meanwhile, prior to his Moreh tour, the new Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami held a closed-door meeting with various civil society organizations at Ukhrul today. The details of the meeting were not known. However, reliable sources said that the meeting was mainly on Indo-Naga Peace Talks and Alternative Arrangement. Source:Hueiyen
