The Honorable Member of Parliament for constituency 055 in Port Loko district who doubles as Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business has moved the motion that another committee should be established in Parliament to be known as the Special Select Committee on Ebola to monitor the activities in the fight against Ebola in the country. He emphasized this when giving comments and update on Ebola in the well of Parliament on Thursday, 30th October, 2014. He said the committee will monitor donor funds that have been coming in the country to fight Ebola in order that these funds will been utilized well. He said Section 93, Subsection 1, 2 and 3 says Parliament shall appoint another committee which shall perform the functions specified in subsection (3). Subsection 3 states that: “it shall be the duty of any such committee as is referred in subsection 2 to investigate or inquire into the activities or administration of such Ministry or Department as may be assigned to it and such investigation or inquiry may extend to proposals for legislation. Subsection 4 says notwithstanding anything contained in subsection 1 and 2 Parliament may at any time appoint any other committee to investigate any matter of public importance. He maintained that Sierra Leone is facing a difficult time but donor funds should be put in good use for the benefit of the people of Sierra Leone. The Minority Leader of Parliament Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai in supporting the motion said Ebola has proved that the health sector was very poor and needed to be strengthened and monitored. She said that Special Select Committee on Ebola is very important so that donor funds will be used for its intended purpose.
