The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 continues the adventures of Katniss Everdeen. After surviving the battle in the previous film Catching Fire, Katniss is now in District 13, an underground rebel facility hidden beneath the ruins of the old District 13, where she is recovering from her ordeal and reunited with her mother and sister Prim. She meets President Alma Coin, the rebel leader. Coin tells her that her actions in the arena have sparked riots and strikes against the Capitol. Coin asks her to be the Mockingjay--the symbol of the rebellion. Katniss initially declines, but after she witnesses the bombing of a hospital shes visiting, she eventually agrees to be the symbol of the rebellion. This is all about Katniss, her transformation from reluctant hero to the symbol of the rebellion. Jennifer Lawrence is very good here conveying fear, anxiety, uncertainty then finding the courage to rise above her negative feelings and accept the responsibility as symbol of the rebellion. The character of President Alma Coin, played by Julianne Moore, is introduced in this film. Moore plays Coin with intelligence and warmth enabling her to get the loyalty of the people around her. Its obvious that the real reason for splitting the third book into two parts is to make more money. Part 1 is a bloated two hour film full of extended scenes and more dialogue than necessary. It could have been told in half its running time. After the exciting Catching Fire this is a snooze fest and if youve not watched it yet, dont bother. Just read the synopsis in the internet and wait for Part 2. Rating:**
