The IBJJF Chicago Spring Open Tournament was great in many ways. Our Vianna Brothers team results were good and bad (because of my own expectations). But no matter the results one thing is for sure everyone that competed, learned. They learned how to compete better, about the rules, fundamental techniques the need to know (or learn) and how important training is. I have to say that I am very proud of everyone that competed and very thankful to all of our team members who showed up to support our team. I am also extremely happy and excited to inform all of you that our association with my friend and Sensei Carlson Gracie Jr and the Carlson Gracie network has already showed results to us and to the Carlson Gracie family. Because of the good results that John Martinez, Von, John Lawrence and Juan Cortez (gold medalist with three exciting fights in his first tournament ever) obtained brought the First Place trophy to the Carlson Gracie Team/Network. Juan Cortez did a great job. He didnt only win a gold medal. His 9 points for the gold put our team, Carlson Gracie, at 259 points against 253 for Brasa and 153 for Gracie Barra. Master Carlson Gracie Jr was extremely happy and proud and personally told me that our association with him made the difference today. So congrats to all of you and lets train even harder for the next tournaments.
