The INC President, Sonia Gandhi, attacked the BJP while addressing partymen in Kochi by saying, “We want unity; they want uniformity. Our idea joins India their’s divides.” She continued, “2014 is the most important election because it’s about what kind of India you want. The idea of India is under threat from those who just don’t seek to rule but to change India’s very heart and soul.” Well, while the fact is the BJP has some problems with the Moslems of the nation and vice versa, the fact is that her statement about BJP dividing the nation by its attempted homogenization and polarization is exaggerated and simply speaking, an overstatement. The fact is that, ideally speaking, no major political party should have any conflict with any major demographic constituents of the nation. For national parties it should be necessarily true. But then this is not a major fault of the BJP neither of Moslem community that they are in conflict with each other. This is the mere consequence of deposits of time in India’s medieval and recent history. The flaw of distributions and conflict between absoluteness and relativism also contribute majorly to the BJP-Moslems conflict. The creation of Pakistan, mayhem during partition, continuing Kashmir dispute and hardline attitudes of leaders of both sides make things worse. But Right is the natural choice for many people in India and the nation is not alone in the world; it is true all over the globe. Now Right is based on nationalism, beliefs, many times on emotions, consumerism and labeling of derivative powers and capital as primary ones though the last could be views of all political opinions in India. If the majority has been in conflicts with minorities anytime in nation’s history then obviously politics in this conflicting, competing high conscious era would result in bitterness among the majority and those minorities with whom it is in conflicts in the past. Now I tell you discrimination and violence against Moslems have no justification but by mere wishthinking Right cannot be presumed dead. Moreover, the fact is that Moslems of India tactically vote against the BJP, wherever the latter is powerful. So what’s the solution? Obviously history cannot be rewritten neither can be regretted beyond a point and the Right is a kind of defense; explicit or implicit, for many, many times, including for underclass lower castes and outcastes, if not for minorities. It is going to stay for any time that can be conceived in politics. Moslems of India are legally as good citizens of India as Hindus are. Therefore, continuing dispute can result in rage and unwanted passionate reactions, without much result on the ground to the satisfaction of either of the sides in larger space-time. The fact is that violence against Moslems should end and the Moslems of India should rethink their strategy against the BJP if they feel that party will not act against their interests in future. Without showing any bias in favor of the BJP I must say that party is positive except on communal question. But it requires corrective and curative steps from the other side as well. I have a clarification that I am not at all passionate about anything, anyone in my life. I leave it to the probable readers, if any, to judge me on that count.
