The IWGB has always seen casework not just as valuable in itself, but as part of its overall strategy to win concessions from the employer and improve the standing of the union. It is vital that the employer knows that should they seek to victimise union members, or to shirk their legal responsibilities, that they will be challenged, and that the union will not hesitate in prosecuting cases no matter how difficult or potentially unwinnable. It is only with this mindset that members can have full confidence in their union, and subsequently fully identify with and participate in it. Easier said than done though! Come down on Tuesday to find out more about how weve learnt to do this, our successes, and our failures...
