The Jefferson Highway Association will have a presence at the International Route 66 Festival in Joplin. The Jefferson Highway roughly parallels U.S. Hwy 71 and U.S. Hwy 69. and Carthage was the spot where the Jefferson and Route 66 met. Main Street and Oak Street in Carthage were part of the Jefferson Highway before there was a Route 66. The two highways never existed at the same time, the Jefferson Highway, a north-south cross country road that went from Canada to New Orleans, was phased out when the US government started numbering highways. This is a note from the Jefferson Highway Association. "The JHA President Theresa Russell, myself and Frank Justus will be attending the Route 66 Festival event in Joplin, MO. Theresa and I will be attending Friday and Sat and Frank will be there on Sat. The Main Street Market Place event the JHA will have a table to promote the JHA at the so please come by to see us or help us at the booth. "We look forward to seeing you all and adding some new members to the JHA while making new contacts with the key decision makers with Route 66."
