The Johor state government, through its agency Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd (KPRJ), plans to raise RM23 million to buy back a 14.16ha land in Senibong so that it can distribute land titles to villagers in the area. The move to buy back the land from Tebrau Teguh Bhd would enable the state government to fulfil the promise made by former Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, said Chief Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin. “Tebrau Teguh is made aware that the villagers have sent an application to the state government to purchase the land before this was bought over by the company from KPRJ.” “We have informed Tebrau Teguh not to carry out any development project within the area or sell the land to another party before the issue is resolved,” he noted, adding that they are presently reviewing land title application made by the villagers. Apart from Kampung Senibong other villages still waiting for their land titles are Seri Bahagia, Plentong 10 and Kampung Plentong. Meanwhile, Mohamed Khaled urged cooperatives in Johor to venture into new sectors, including tourism, so that they can tap the state’s economic boom. For instance, residents of Senibong, which is known for delicious sea food, could rent out a room in their home to foreigners. “This will help the cooperatives to find new financial resources as well as attract more people, especially foreign tourists,” he added.
