The Kenyan music industry has seen a number of technological advances among them sale of music via downloads or ringback tone services (such as Skiza). For a long time, the industry has asked for a means through which artists and record labels can access their sales reports so that they can be able to tell which organisations are selling their content. Safaricom and the collective management organisations - CMOs (PRISK, KAMP, MCSK) intend to carry out a trial of a digital rights management system that will enable artist to transparently access music download and skiza reports therefore being able know how their music is selling and by whom the same is being done. This is set to change the music industry in Kenya for the better and we would like to invite artists and record labels to join in this exercise so that we can have an all representative exercise and successful results. Artists/Performers should write [email protected] and producers/record labels should write to [email protected] while song writers/composers and publishers should write [email protected] participation. Together, lets change the music industry for the best.
