The Khrushchyovka (хрущовка or хрущёвка) was an innovative attempt to quickly provide affordable housing in Russia during the 60s. What is noteworthy is that the хрущёвка is probably one of the earliest attempts at prefabricated concrete design, a method that allowed a home to be erected in just two weeks. Most хрущёвки were five stories, because that was the maximum number of floors allowed with an elevator. The living units sacrificed living space for economy and practicality, as you will see in this video. Many thousands of these living units are still inhabited throughout Russia today and is an example of Russian design practicality.
