The Kingsburg Police Department will be publishing a series of safety and travel tips for our citizens that will keep you safer, and a little less stressed, during the holiday season. The holidays mean family time, and, depending on how far away that family is, that often necessitates travel. Here are some air travel tips to consider if you’re flying for the holidays: Check in electronically Checking in electronically can take you out of that check-in line and keep you moving forward toward your flight. Most airlines have kiosks set up where, rather than waiting to talk to a person in a charming airline uniform, you just need to scan your ticket, in some cases you can do it right from your smartphone. Some airlines dont even require you to wait in line at a kiosk -- you can check in on the airlines website and print your boarding pass at home. If your airport has curb-side check in, pay your bag fees ahead of time and check our bag at the curb. You can go directly to TSA and skip the ticket counter! Be on time/Fly Fresno Get to the airport a little early, this gives you time to find a parking place, and it gives you time to get checked in. Consider flying from Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT). Tickets are competitively priced, and sometimes even cheaper, and you avoid the arduous drive to LAX or SFO, and the high price of parking and gas. The TSA lines in Fresno are shorter, and you can connect anywhere from right here in Fresno. Ultimately, it takes a lot of stress off of you and may even save you some money. Book the days earliest flight A really smart thing to do is to get the first flight out for the day. First, it gets your vacation off to a nice, speedy start. The faster you get through the airport, the faster you can get to your destination. Unanticipated delays affect all the flights after them, and theres an unfortunate ripple effect. Chances are, the first flight of the day will go off on time and without a hitch. Dont check your bags If you can do it, dont bring any checked baggage. Just bring a carry-on (make sure its dimensions fit the airlines requirements) and dont worry about bringing checked luggage. You could even go directly from the airline check-in kiosk to the TSA and bypass the ticket counter altogether! Remember the limits on liquids and gels (3-3-3) to save time and hassles at the TSA checkpoint. Go to TSA.gov for more information. Be prepared for delays Weather and aircraft malfunctions are the top reasons for delays. Have your phone charger with multi-ubs ports so you can share outlets with your fellow strandees. Remember to bring the charging cords for all your devices too! Carry on your medications so the are with you. Have a paper copy of your reservations, and the 1-800 numbers and websites for your carrier. If your flight is cancelled, you can book your flights by phone or internet right in the terminal and avoid the line of unhappy people at the airline desk.
