The Knox County Board of Education has instituted a nickel tax to - TopicsExpress

The Knox County Board of Education has instituted a nickel tax to fund a new technology center. Clearly, this is an unnecessary expense as we have an existing technology center that offers the exact same services as the proposed center. Obviously, part of this plan is to purchase new land. Which is scheduled for phase two. The idea that the land has not already been earmarked is laughable. Further, no funds will be used for salaries or other district expenditures, where the money is really needed. We need to hire and retain better teachers and improve education in this area. Rather than overpay for land and construction costs of new facilities, as has been the status quo for the last 30 years in Knox County. All this spending on new facilities and we remain at or near the bottom in all educational categories in the Commonwealth. I would encourage everyone to sign the petition that is being circulated by October 10 so that it will be put to a vote at the next regular election. And please remember the board members that voted in favor of the tax on Election Day.
