The LCCC Student Government Association hosts civil rights - TopicsExpress

The LCCC Student Government Association hosts civil rights activist Dr. Terrence Roberts tonight at 7 p.m. in the Community Services Center, Main Campus. Roberts was one of the Little Rock Nine, the first group of African American students who, in 1957, were the first black students to enroll at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. Roberts was 15 years old and in the 11th grade. President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent U.S. Army troops to accompany the students to school for protection. The troops were stationed at the school for the entirety of the school year. Roberts earned his bachelors degree from the California State University at Los Angeles and his masters degree in social work from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned his doctorate in psychology from Southern Illinois University. Today, Roberts runs a private psychology practice in Pasadena and is chief executive officer of the management-consulting firm, Terrence J. Roberts & Associates. The event is free and open to the public.
