The Life We Live - Sunday - July 21, 2013 Stand Blameless Before God 2 Corinthians 7:10 (NASB) For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. Repentance means that I have seen myself as God sees me, that I recognize my evil deeds and the goodness of God. When I begin to see my own wickedness against the background of God’s holiness; His perfect goodness, love, and righteousness, I am led to what the Bible calls a “Godly sorrow.” This means that I am not just sorry for getting caught in sin, but that I have a true, great remorse for my sinful condition; that I truly seek God’s forgiveness and commit to change my evil ways…to turn around and follow God’s ways rather than my own, independent ways. It means that I will no longer seek approval from the world, but commit to live to serve and please God. When we repent and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are completely forgiven of all our sins. We are cleansed. Our sins have been removed and transferred to the sacrifice of Jesus. All our sins were laid upon Him. Since our sins are cleansed away by God, all our guilt is also removed. We stand before God blameless. Because of God’s mercy and grace upon our lives, we are also to forgive others in the same manner that He has forgiven us; this we must be willing to do in order to reflect the love of God to others who are in need of the same forgiveness that we have just received from God. Now we are free. We are free of sin, guilt, and from the bitterness of hating others who have offended us. We are free to experience the joy of God’s love and forgiveness; free to serve Him, free to love others, free to receive God’s promise of eternal life in His heaven, free to do our part in building His kingdom. John 3:16 (NASB) “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
