The Life We Live - Thursday - July 11, 2013 Jesus Christ, Our Perfect Sacrifice Leviticus 17:11 (NASB) For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement. Romans 5:8-9 (NASB) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. God, being absolutely righteous, cannot tolerate sin, and has always demanded the penalty of death for sin. When Adam and Eve sinned, God sacrificed a lamb to cover them. In the Old Testament days of Moses, the high priest Aaron would sprinkle the blood of the sacrificed animal on the altar. The death of an animal was always on behalf of the sinner, which included the high priest and even the entire nation. The shed blood provided temporary forgiveness of sins, but the sacrifices had to continue year after year. In the sacrificial death of Jesus we have the perfect sacrifice on our behalf; the death of Christ instead of our own death; the perfect blood of Christ washing away all our sins on a permanent basis. His is our sinless sacrifice and our sinless High Priest, and His resurrection assures us that peace is forever established between each believer and God. Jesus, the Lamb of God, God Himself in the form of a man, gives each believer the gift of eternal life in His glorious kingdom. Let us be thankful every morning and every evening for the One who died on our behalf, and praise Him for His love.
