The Long Arm Of The Oil Industrys Law Grand County, Utah - TopicsExpress

The Long Arm Of The Oil Industrys Law Grand County, Utah sheriffs department has requested funds to put a command center on the eastern plateau of Utah to protect the first tar sands mine in the United States from peaceful protestors. Last summer, Canyon Country Rising Tide, Peaceful Uprising and Utah Tar Sands Resistance maintained a camp there to raise awareness about the impact of Utah tar sands on local communities, wilderness and the climate. In July, the camp staged an action that shut down the mine and resulted in 21 arrests. The police state obviously wants to increase its diligence for oil and gas operators in the area. As Canyon Country Rising Tider Sarah Stock said: “This is yet another example of public money being used to facilitate tar sands development. The real danger to our community is tar sands, oil shale, and unregulated oil and gas development, not peaceful protesters. If the Grand County Sheriff’s Department has extra time and money to burn, they should help the understaffed BLM inspect and enforce regulations on the thousands of potentially leaking oil and gas wells in the state.”
