The Long and Lonesome Ride is a documentary film project exploring the lengthy history and relationship of veterans and the motorcycle culture. With the focus on combat veterans and the effects of PTSD; Norwood Paladin, a Gulf War veteran with tens of thousands of miles under his saddle, aims to cast light on why so many veterans gravitate toward this way of life. For well over half a century motorcycle clubs and associations have been largely created and sustained by former and current members of the armed forces. Is it because veterans feel displaced after returning from war? Is it the danger of the open road or the feeling of freedom and liberation? Perhaps its a need to connect and commune with the relative few who can understand the difficulties many veterans face in the civilian world. An understanding that can only be shared by those who have witnessed the horrors of battle. This film seeks to answer questions and shed light on this phenomenon while exploring ways that we as a society can help these brave men and women heal.
