The Luanshya Municipal Council and the Municipality of Arvidsjaur of Sweden have signed a Five-year Development Partnership Agreement aimed at promoting sustainable development and trade between the two municipalities. Luanshya Mayor, Gordon Siwale and Town Clerk, Moses Mwelwa officially signed the agreement on behalf of the local authority, while Arvidsjaur Municipality Mayor, Lotta Aman and his Town Clerk Kerstin Olla, signed on behalf of the Swedish town during a colorful ceremony held at the Arvidsjaur City Hall in Sweden yesterday. Luanshya council Public Relations Manager, Gideon Thole said in a statement availed to Sum FM News Today that the Development Co-operation Agreement also aims at stimulating friendship and understanding between the Two councils apart from increasing cross-border contacts between organisations , companies and individuals from Zambia and Sweden. Mr. Thole said the agreement has four specific objectives which both councils have agreed to implement during the coming years. He said representatives from both councils resolved to actively stimulate the development of local organisations, companies, networks, NGOs and individuals to participate in cross border co-operation. Mr. Thole said the Development Co-operation came into force immediately after approval from the respective authorities signed the MoU in Arvidsjaur Sweden. This Agreement will among others, see Swedish companies invest in various sectors of the economy in Luanshya while trade between Zambia and Sweden is expected to be boosted after the signing of the Development Partnership Agreement facilitated by the Stockholm based International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD).
