The MSU Bands would like to extend invitations to audition for the Spartan Youth Wind Symphony for the 2014-2015 academic year. The Spartan Youth Wind Symphony (SYWS) is an honors wind ensemble for high school students based at Michigan State University in East Lansing. SYWS is under the direction of Dr. Cormac Cannon, assistant director of MSU Bands, and is open to the most outstanding Michigan high school instrumentalists (woodwind, brass, and percussion), providing an opportunity to rehearse in a university setting. Students will perform and interact with peers from around the state and receive instruction from College of Music faculty and students. They will enhance their skills as musicians and ensemble performers through the exploration of advanced-level repertoire in both large ensemble and in weekly chamber groups in an inspired rehearsal atmosphere. Each semester culminates in combined performances with the award-winning MSU Wind Symphony and Symphony Band. Auditions will be held on the campus of Michigan State University on May 17-18, and all of the information and online application can be found at music.msu.edu/syws.
