The Metrodomes iconic roof is part of our story. Wouldnt you like - TopicsExpress

The Metrodomes iconic roof is part of our story. Wouldnt you like to wear a piece this winter? Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States Small Business Own a Piece of the Dome I make mittens. I make mittens in my home. I make mittens in my home using repurposed wool sweaters. How many times have I said, when trying to explain where I live: Do you know where the Metrodome is? I live right by the Metrodome! The Metrodome was the marker for people trying to find our house! The Metrodome put our neightborhood on the map (especially when it collapsed in 2010!!) and has been a part of our familys story for over 30 years. When it was torn down this year to make way for the new stadium we were amazed at how sentimental we and so many others were about the loss of this Minnesota icon. THEN IT HAPPENED! I heard that some of the roof had been salvaged and was available for sale, and before I knew it I had found a source to buy some of the very roof that came down in the record-breaking snowfall of 2010. Being in the mitten business (very practical in Minnesota, dont you know!) I began to dream about Metrodome Mittens and a way for everyone who had great memories at the Dome to have a little piece of our history. It was soon clear that this was a project too big for my wonderful team of sewers! So over the past few months I have linked arms with several other local Makers who are committed to creating totally cool products that are handmade by the real Minnesotans: Jeri Cullen at HBI Textiles hbitextiles; Kent and Lee Begnaud at LeatherworksMN leatherworksminnesota; Beth Mulchany at M-plus Embroidery mplus-embroidery; Matthew Taylor and Allison Flores at Taylor Design Works taylordesignworks; and my great team at Steller Handcrafted Goods stellergoods. And that is where Indigogo and YOU come in. I managed to finance the Repurposed Sweater side of my business, but adding the Repurposed Dome was a whole new challenge. We are hoping that lots of you good folks will be excited to help us with this wonderful project. What We Need & What You Get Our goal is to raise $10,000. This will cover the cost of the Metrodome Roof fabric AND the hangtags and stickers that will verify the fabrics authenticiy and tell the Metrodome story. We are excited to give all our contributors great gifts to say thanks for helping our idea become a reality. More than just memorabilia... In a throw away era we think it is wonderful to be able to reuse durable, useful materials. We love the value of products that are handcrafted and made in the USA by real Minnesotans. We love preserving the story of the Metrodome and all the fun we have had there with our high school, college and professional teams as well as scads of other events. Metrodome Mittens and key fobs are a way to do that: Repurposing, useful, memorable, affordable. Now THAT is valuable. Isnt this a little risky? I realized early on that this was a big leap for my little company, but it was just too fun to resist. Everyone that has seen and touched a piece of the roof has been so excited about the potential of owning a piece of the dome. Several stores have preordered and we hope to add lots more. We have spent lots of time and resources on design and product development, and we are so excited to get our products out there just in time for cool weather and outdoor football! It can even be a little nippy at the beginning and end of baseball season, right? Real Minnesotans wear MITTENS!! Thanks for your help. I am so thankful for all the interest and excitement my ideas have stirred up. Dreams are a funny thing, arent they? Sometimes they actually come true. Even if you cannot contribute I hope you will spread the word about my project and products. They will be available on my website and in many fine stores.
