The Middle Ages actually sound much more fun than contemporary Russia (so the fear of returning to the Middle Ages expressed by liberals should be replaced by the slogan Bring back the Middle Ages!) : Medieval homes and communities often lacked privacy, and it might have been difficult for a couple to find a place they could be intimate.
