I look at her in disbelief Are you not escorting the child? then go on to explain I can do this as a wait and return should she require. Excuse me! Im not paying you any-more! Understanding money may be tight, offer to do so at a reduced rate, at least to show my cooperation/consideration in resolving the matter, amicably. The fare is £3.50, Ill do the return for £5.00 if it helps? Nah mate, I aye paying any more; are you mad?! And your happy that the child travels on her own, right? Yeah, just do your job man and take her! I cannot and will not, convey a minor without an escort You have too, its your job! and went on to say that she had informed the base at the time of booking. Consent : Let me say categorically, that if she had done so, the base team would have advised her that this would not be permissible unless the child was escorted. Now at this point, Im aware and concerned that this conversation is being overheard by the child, I look in my rear view mirror and see her face showing the signs, eyes filling up. The womans tonality toward me is very clear, very load; she is simply not getting it? I keep my voice calm so as to not to add to the childs growing signs of distress. Please, either escort the child or make alternative arrangements as I refuse to carry out your instructions. At this point the woman kicks off, calling me all manners of things including my questionable parentage; opens the door, drags the child out, who by now is crying and slams it shut, with force. Your a sh*t service - wa**ker! followed by more rants and pointed comments of my ethnicity - strange coming from someone not to dissimilar? I remember thinking that should I have used such colourful language, I suspect I would have either been beaten up or reported to the Police for a Racial Hate crime. Swings both ways right or does it? Anyone who considers using a Taxi/Minicab for the purpose of transferring a child without an escort, needs to consider the welfare of the Child i.e. Duty of Care. Not least have their head examined!
