The Misconceptions of Muhammad There are several indications in the Koran of Mohammed misunderstandings regarding Christianity. For example , Mary the mother of Jesus , is confused with Miriam , the sister of Moses ( Sura 19:28) . There is also confusion between the circumstances of Jesus birth and the tragic trail of Hagar when she was kicked out of Abrahams house . The Quran says that Mary gave birth to Jesus , alone, without her husband , Joseph, under a palm tree , hungry and thirsty ( Sura 19.22-28 ) , but does not explain how or why a pregnant mother have become victim in such unusual circumstances . The Bible , on the other hand, not only the fact that the birth of Jesus Maria was accompanied by her husband Joseph in a stable in Bethlehem , but also explains why. A decree from Caesar Augustus made sure everyone should pay taxes. Joseph had to return to the city of his lineage to register and pay taxes , as well as multitudes of others, causing the small hostel of Bethlehem were unable to accommodate everyone. The occurrence of this date , accurate tax collection is historically proven by independent sources , while the vague and unlikely in the Koran registry has no such support. Obviously both the Koran and the Bible , can not be correct . The several obvious contradictions between the two records forcing us to choose what to believe . An important consideration is the fact that the Koran was orally recounted by Muhammad some 600 years after Christ , while the record of the Old Testament was written over 1000 years ( 2000 years in some cases ) before. It is simply logical to deduce , barring other contrary evidence , that the closest written record of events should be as accurate .
